Original Pencil Drawing 
 
The detailed pencil sketch of Bear Trap Ranch is based upon a photograph I took the last week of May, 2025. Located south of Colorado Springs, it is 8 miles from the western end of Cheyenne Mountain Road. As the paving ends on the narrow, climbing road you start travelling on a narrow, deeply-rutted, cliff-hugging, white-knuckling, dirt road with no railing. Yes...you are on the right path (Cheyenne Mountain Road becomes Old Stage Road)!
 
Bear Trap Ranch is an award-winning facility, selected for the 2023 Best of Colorado Springs Award in the Retreat Center category by the Colorado Springs Award Program. They offer a retreat center which hosts college students, youth groups, families, churches, schools and ministries both locally from along Colorado’s Front Range, and from around the world. It is nestled at 9100ft elevation in a forested valley. In their words:

The view is looking roughly south towards the Cook House (main dining hall). Wrangler lodge (54 beds), where all the students lived,  is set into the hillside in the background.   Summit Ministries held a Capstone event at the Ranch during the last week of May, 2025 for graduates of the 2024-2025 Leadership Cohort. I spent the last three days (mostly in foggy and heavy rain conditions) attending Capstone lectures by guest speakers (true Summit style!) and getting to personally know some of the students and peer leaders. I snapped the original picture on the day of departure - the only clear, sunny day the whole week!
